Der Ramboux-Preis wird von der Stadt Trier alle vier Jahre im Bereich der Bildenden Kunst ausgeschrieben. Neben der Würdigung eines Lebenswerkes zielt der Preis vornehmlich auf die Aus- und Weiterbildung junger Künstlerinnen und Künstler.
Als Maßnahme zur gezielten Förderung junger Künstlerinnen und Künstler ist als Höchstalter für die Bewerbung um diesen Preis 40 Jahre vorzugeben. Der Ramboux-Preis ist verbunden mit einem Ankauf in Höhe von 6.000 Euro und einer Einzelausstellung im Stadtmuseum Simeonstift Trier.
Die jungen Künstler/innen aus dem Bereich des ehemaligen Regierungsbezirkes Trier können sich mit einer Arbeitsmappe bei der einzusetzenden Jury bewerben, die dann nach Sichtung des eingereichten Materials eine Vorauswahl trifft. Die in Frage kommenden Kandidaten werden aufgefordert, Originalwerke (je nach Raumkapazität bis maximal 5 Werke) einzureichen. In einer zweiten Sitzung bestimmt die Jury mit einfacher Mehrheit den/die Preisträger/in. Alle eingereichten Arbeiten sind in der Wettbewerbsausstellung um den Ramboux-Preis im Stadtmuseum Simeonstift (09.12.2018–17.02.2019) vertreten. Bitte bei der Bewerbung beachten: Die Einzelausstellung des/der Preisträgers/in soll parallel zur Wettbewerbsausstellung präsentiert werden, es sollte für diesen Zeitraum also eine entsprechende Anzahl an Werken verfügbar sein!
